Umdloti is arguably one of the best recreational fishing coastlines on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal. One of the locals’ favoured activities is kayaking or paddle-ski fishing. Most launches are done through the surf or from the shelter of bays or rocky outcrops.

Our waters are warm and the sheer variety of large predator fish make for some exciting fishing that would be difficult to match elsewhere in South Africa.

Types of Fish in Umdloti

Here you can expect to catch Couta, Snoek, Dorado, Tuna, Sail fish, King Mackerel, Sharks, Kingfish, and Queenfish. You might even stumble upon a few Rays, Skates and Sandsharks too!

In late winter and spring, Garrick (Leervis) are quite common. Other common fish on the North Coast are Spotted Grunter, Rock cod, Kob, and pompano.

CONSERVATION

Umdloti Beach local community to take huge pride in their town and conservation is one of their key focus. It is important to ensure that you comply with the regulations that apply in this area in addition to those that apply to the rest of the country.
